Compassion Ministries
Our purpose is threefold.
- Our goal is to extend the compassion of Jesus in word and deed to those who are hurting. We want all people to know they are loved and valued because Christ died for them.
- We want to encourage followers of Jesus to be compassionate. We must be willing to sacrifice time, money, and comfort to serve others in the name of Jesus.
- We want to promote community within the Body as we provide opportunities for individuals to connect, sharing our lives as we join together in a common goal to serve others.
Ministry opportunities include:
- Meal Ministry- We provide meals to people who are experiencing difficult situations.
- New Visions Outreach- Twice a month, December through March, we provide and cook breakfast or lunch for 60-70 homeless persons in Camden. There is opportunity to mutually share our lives and faith.
- Fall Food Baskets- Each fall we collect and distribute non-perishable food for the needy people in our community. We encourage our members to be aware of those in need and rely on all to give us names of the needy.
- Children's Fresh Air Home- Each year we give as a missionary outreach to this ministry. The Fresh Air Home gives children who have limited opportunities the chance to enjoy a beach vacation while being exposed to Christian values. Even though the Home was closed this year, it was arranged with a nearby camp for 75 children to experience God's love there.
- Bereavement/Sickness Visits- We comfort and visit those who have lost a loved one or are dealing with sickness. We also bring them a basket to cheer them.
- Options Pregnancy Care Center- Once a year we participate in a baby bottle fundraiser in support of this agency.
- Meet The Need- We provide a church bulletin board via the Internet to notify the people of Joy Community Fellowship of immediate or long-term needs and wants.
- Soldier Cookie Collection- Every six weeks, cookies are sent to one of the three men who we are caring for while they serve in Iraq.
- Feed the Children-Twice a year this outreach program collects toiletry and school items to fill personal boxes for children worldwide. Children of the tsunami disaster and victims of Katrina have been recipients.
